New York Groove

2011 - Thom Yorke - The Eraser – Click Here For Playlist

In late 2011, after a year of exploring New York, I stumbled upon Insound.com. It was a Brooklyn-based Internet vinyl store. I took an intern position and was amazed by the great energy and musical knowledge of all my fellow worker bees. We each took turns playing an album on the company turntable while packing orders for shipment. Another intern put this epic album on one day, and I had to buy it. It became the soundtrack to my life for the next six months.

2013 - Jets to Brazil - Orange Rhyming Dictionary

On record store day of 2013 I was wandering in Greenwich Village and stumbled into a free show setting up. It was Forgetters, and I had never heard of them. Blown away by the live set, I checked out the band lineup and found that it was fronted by former Jets To Brazil singer/guitarist Blake Schwarzenbach. I had heard of the band, but I was not familiar with their music. Thanks to YouTube, I was enlightened. I included a song from this album on my very first photo video production.

2013 - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Push the Sky Away – Click Here For Playlist

This is possibly the greatest album from Nick and the boys. It's depth and melodies make it stand head and shoulders atop my list of Nick's greatest output. For my money, This is the best album released in 2013, bar none.

2013 - Parquet Courts - Light Up Gold

Oh yea, Parquet Courts are the bomb. Another Insound special. I knew Brooklyn had a thriving music scene and this was the first "Local" band that I found. They are really making a name for themselves and I am glad to be in on this great band from the beginning.

2013 - Savages - Silence Yourself - Click Here For Playlist

Sent to cover this band for a now-defunct magazine, I was stunned by their stage presence and musicianship. They are a juggernaut of female power. Woe to you, the person who refers to them as a girl band.
