Who I Am

HEYJOENYC is David Medeiros. Born and raised in Massachusetts, his love affair with music started at an early age. Around nine years old he received a portable 8-track player as a gift, and the Beatles were the first band he plugged into it.

His passion for photography didn't come quite so easy. Although he's always owned a camera, he was never serious about mastering the art. That changed when life's path took him to live in Brooklyn in 2010. The vibrant energy of New York brought out a long hidden passion and natural ability. What started as street photography with his first-generation smartphone, took on a life of its own. Before long his two loves came together. The photo pit of a crowded New York City concert hall is where you are most likely to find him these days.

His first assignment was to cover New Order at the legendary Roseland Ballroom. The next night it was Primus at the Hammerstein, and his life would never be the same. The list of bands that have passed in front of his lens is impressive and varied. Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Ace Frehley, Kendrick Lamar, The Flaming Lips, fun, Jane's Addiction, and Devo, David has shot an ever-growing list of today's hottest bands. He has done assignments for Spin Magazine, CMJ Music Festival, Superfly Presents, Performer Magazine, Airbnb, and Universal Music Group among others.

If you don't meet David at a concert, you'll likely find him at a baseball game. He has season tickets and always brings his Camera.
